This promotional movie introduces “kowakamai”, the oldest dance performance in Japan which is designated as a national significant intangible folk cultural asset. It has a history of 700 years and is said that it is the roots of Japanese traditional performing arts. Kowakamai is such a precious classic performance that can be seen only on 20th of January every year.

 

 

Kowakamai was originally for celebration but battle stories were getting featured and became a popular entertainment for Samurai soldiers. In Oe area, kids learn Kowakamai when they become grade 4 to hand down by tradition to new generations.

Kiyomizu” is listed on 500 best walking paths in the entire country by Japan Walking Association. Many historical places of Kiyomizu-dera Temple which has a history of 1200 years can be seen on this course

 

 

 

Zoyama Historical Forest Park is one of the most popular sightseeing spot where is well-known as the best place of autum leaves, forest bathing and cherry blossoms in springtime. Many historical heritages such as Zoyama-kogoishi, mounded tombs and more can be seen in the park.

 

Tamameshi, the local food of Miyama City

 

Tamameshi is a rice ball with whole marinated half-boiled egg in the rice. The half-boiled eggs are marinated special soy sauce for a day and they are wrapped with the same soy sauce flavored rice. Recently there are many different flavored Tamameshi can be enjoyed such as curry flavor, chicken flavor and more.

 

Also, very rare fish called “Haya” can be eaten in Miyama City. Haya can be caught at local Yabe River and Chikugo River. Please try the traditional local food called “Haya Kanroni (sweetened boiled fish)”.
