This promotional movie introduces fascinations of Toho-mura village where is located on the border of Oita Prefecture. Iwaya Shrine with mysterious stone stairs is famous for Hoshu stones (also known as stones from the stars.).

 

 

Ibuki-kan where used to be a residence of Denemon Ito who was known as a king of coal mining is another must-see place in the village. Its historical building and exhibits are worth seeing. Ibuki-kan tells us how energetic and lively the colliery was.

Arriving by airplane:

Approximately 2hrs from Haneda Airport to Fukuoka Airport. About 1 hr drive from Fukuoka Airport to the center of Toho-mura village.

 

Arriving by train:

Approximately 5 hrs from Tokyo station to Hakata station by bullet train. About 35 mins from Hakata Station to Katsuragawa Station by JR Sasaguri Line. About 10 mins from Katsuragawa Station to Shin-Iizuka Station by JR Chikuho Main Line. 25 mins from Shin-Iizuka Station to Tagawa-Gotoji Station by JR Gotoji Line. Another 55 mins from Tagawa-Gotoji Station to Daigyoji Station by JR Hitahikosan Line.

Iwaya Shrine which was featured in the movie is one of the most popular sightseeing places where many people visit to worship. It has a history of 1500 years and the main shrine is designated as a national important cultural property. Tanada Shinsui Park is fun place with terraced paddy of Toho-mura village Mt. Hoshu and swimming pool. There are 3 different water depths of pools that any kids and adults can be enjoyed.

 

 

Toho-mura village has terraced paddy of Toho-mura village Mt. Hoshu which is chosen as one of the Japan’s 100 best terraced paddies, and Iwaya springs which is chosen as one of Heisei best waters.

 

 

A village of Yuzu

 

Toho-mura village is well known as a great producer of Yuzu citrus. Yuzu products are good for souvenirs such as sweets, Yuzu flavored honey, dressing, ice cream, Ponzu, Yuzu-kosho and more. Toho-mura village is also famous as a rice producer. 120 tons of rice is produced at terraced paddies a year.

Murano-eki Sakura is a perfect place to find village’s specialties and souvenirs. You would have a good time to find locally produced fresh vegetable, Sake and more!
