[:en]“Kasugano Mukooshi” at Kasuga Shrine is an interesting traditional event which has a long history in Kasuga City, Fukuoka Prefecture. It’s a festival guys roughly push newly wed grooms who got married previous year to celebrate them. This festival was designated as a national significant intangible folk cultural asset.



The main cast of the event is a couple who got married in previous year. People celebrate their newly wedding. The event consists of different processes.

Access to Kasuga City

Arriving by airplane:
Approximately 2hrs from Haneda Airport to Fukuoka Airport. About 20 min drive from Fukuoka Airport to the center of Kasuga City.

Arriving by train:
Approximately 5 hrs from Tokyo station to Hakata station by bullet train. About 15 mins from Hakata Station to Kasuga Station by JR Kagoshima Main Line.

Many unique festivals in Kasuga City

There are many unique festivals other than “Kasugano Mukooshi” in Kasuga City. “Yomego no Shiritataki” at Sumiyoshi Shrine is a festival to celebrate newly wed bride who got married in previous year that is held every January 14th. Kids spank the bride’s butt to celebrate the wedding. Kasuga Nakoku Floats Festival which is held every October in Kasuga Park is the largest festival in Kasuga City. It’s the festival to remember the deceased with handmade floats in the park.

Kasuga city is thought a center of Nakoku in ancient era. There still remains many historical ruins from Yayoi Period. In Nakoku-no-oka Historical Museum where is located in Kasuga City Nakoku-no-oka Park, exhibits of excavations in Kasuga City and national historical site Suguokamoto Ruins can be seen. In every September, Naokoku-no-oka Festa is held in this museum. Also, Hihaizuka Mounded Tomb, the largest mounded tomb in the city, is one of the must-see spot.

Kasuga City is a popular residential area as a commuter town of Hakata and is a place where all the local feasts of Fukuoka can be eaten like Hakata, the biggest city in the prefecture.
